A total of 14 Umoja wa Wanawake Tanzania (UWT) members in Lindi
Region, including one with disability, have joined the race for special
parliamentary seats in the coming General Election.
The Lindi UWT Regional Secretary, Sija Hassani Lukwale, yesterday
told this paper that five of them would contest for Lindi Urban while
others (with their numbers in brackets) are: Kilwa (3), Nachingwea (2),
Liwale (2), Lindi-rural (1) and Ruangwa (1).
Aspirants for Lindi-urban include Amida Abdalah, Mwajuma Maulid,
Kijakazi Yunus, Sheila Salum and Aisha Ally Issa. On the other hand,
Honorata Mbinda Chitanda will contest for Ruangwa and Riziki Lulida
(Lindi-rural).
Others are: Pili Salum Kimera, Farida Mohamedi Kikoleka and Aziza
Ally Mangosongo (Kilwa), Mayasa Bashekhe Mikidadi and Feliciana Migomba
(Liwale),Tekra Mohamedi Ungele and Sezaria Beneranda Makota (Nachingwea)
Lukwale said the number of people who were interested to vie for
special seats was more than in the last election, noting: “This year
women have become more aware than in the last election. ”
The General Election for the President, members of parliament and local councils is scheduled for October 25 this year.
